We were blessed with 2 healthy, beautiful sons. But someone was missing! We traveled to Moscow, Russia to bring home our baby girl and complete our family!

Hives, hives, hives
Grace went to the allergist today after 5 weeks of hives. They couldn't skin test her since we couldn't take her off the medicines due to hives run amuck (See below pics). The poor thing had them everywhere at one point! The allergist feels confident it is not a food allergy, but possibly chronic hives which could last 3-12 months! Maybe longer :( The thought is that she has a dust mite allergy which triggered the hives but are not the cause of what you see below. She has to go for blood work and be tested for a whole list of allergens as well as lead levels, vitamin D deficiency, liver and kidney function. We left feeling better, but still would like these things to go away. For right now she will be staying on Zyrtec since it seems to be working again. Stress or illness could also cause the hives. The weird thing is, the first day she had them was the day I left before she woke up to go to the beach for the day with my relatives. We thought that reaction was due to strawberries. I can't help but wonder if she was stressed. It was the first day we were apart. Who knows! We now think she will be a little girl who gets hives pretty easily. Luckily she doesn't seem too bothered by them. But I think I need a sedative :)

You've totally ruled out parasites of any sort? I was just watching a discovery show and it was talking about parasites and hives was one girls main symptom. I just say this as Anna had parasites and I know it can be common from Russian baby homes. Poor Grace....glad they don't bother her too much. Hope it can get sorted out soon.
Shelly, she was tested for parasites by the IA doctor when we first came home and everything was fine. We do have a follow up in December and I will mention it. However, I have been keeping them in the loop on the situation the past 5 months. I really hope we aren't missing something like that.
I meant 5 weeks :)
Oh Jeanette, poor Grace and momma! Here's hoping they don't stay around for 12 months. Praying for you guys!!
poor thing. i hate seeing the pictures. hopefully they clear up soon.
Isn't it terrible when you can't figure things out, and the Drs are supposed to know "everything"! Well I'm glad they don't bother Gracie, but I would feel terrible too! Hope someone figures it out soon for ya!
We had a similar issue with Daniel and these bumps on him (not like hives but more like itchy fluidy filled bumps on his knees, elbows, under his arms) and they drove him and me nuts. We went everywhere and no one could figure it out. Believe it or not, the minute we took him out of diapers they cleared up - yet he wasn't allergic to latex. Can you try a cloth diaper (I know, I know) for a week and see if it helps. Since Daniel was never in diapers before, it made sense, but we didn't figure it out until we went cold turkey with the diapers (almost a YEAR later.) Like you, I needed a sedative by then. I know just how you are feeling. They've been gone ever since.
Poor kid! I'm scratching just looking at the photos. I hope you get some answers soon and you both get some relief.
