10 Months Home

I started this post on Wednesday, our 10 months home date, but had trouble with a video I wanted to upload. It's there, but I can't figure out why is doesn't center on the screen. Move the mouse around until the play button turns red.

Grace's behavior is so much better again! I better knock on wood :) After my last post, we spent the weekend giving Grace lots of OT and attention. Brad was great with her since I was still in a lot of pain. I'm sure my inability to sit on the floor and goof around was part of the problem. I got a new prescription and my back is doing so much better, therefore our whole week was better. I enjoy her so much more when I'm feeling good. Someone had asked if Grace can communicate what she wants or needs, and she is doing very well. She adds words every day, I've lost count :)

We have our 1 year post placement visit tomorrow. I CAN NOT believe it is approaching one year since Grace became ours officially! It still feels so new in some respects and other ways it feels like she has always been here. We need to have up to date height and weight for the PPR. So I took Grace to the doctor's office just to get that done. Are you ready???? The girl is weighing in at 34 lbs!!!! And her height is 36 inches! She is so big for her age and it is so weird since most babies from orphanages are tiny. I totally have been watching what she eats, but she is still a growing machine! She loves fruits, so thankfully that is a common snack for her. My boys are so thin (they get that from their daddy) and can eat anything they want. Although I am sort of the food nazi with them too. Sure, have some cookies, after you have a piece of fruit. Grace is allowed the occasional ice cream, cookie and chips, but I really try to avoid them with her. I don't want to deprive her of all things yummy, though :)

Tomorrow night Brad and I are actually going out to dinner by ourselves!!! I can't wait! Aunt Denise and Uncle Andy are coming over and that always means McDonalds for the kids!

I forgot to post about Grace's visit to the opthamologist back in January. She has one eye that every once in a while will drift out. (very random and occasional) We tried patching for one hour a day but that was a bust. The girl just ripped it off every time. But we did do drops twice a week to blur the good eye and make the other eye work a little harder. We had her follow up yesterday and for right now we aren't going to do anything else for about 5 months. She seems pretty good right now. The doctor does think she will need glasses by kindergarten.

I've also been enjoying some spring shopping for Grace! It is getting dangerous! I can not wait for warm weather and a new wardrobe! Grace has outgrown most of her 2T clothes and looks like a poor girl half the time with clothes that are too small :)

Stay tuned for pics of Grace on her new trampoline (recommended by the OT)!!!! It just came and I can't wait to see her on it tonight!

Glad to hear Grace is doing well, and that you are able to get your date night!

The mini-trampolines are fantastic ways to get the kiddos regulated. Meech loved his until my older kids broke it. I have been meaning to get him a new one, i think it is time. You will love having one and see a big difference in behaviors, I am sure.

Jeanette, Grace sure is big for her size. Ava grace is 26 lbs and 36" tall, but Ava is 2 years 3 months now. Hope your date out was great. We all need to invest in our marriage. Is the trampoline a big full size one, or one that fits inside? We have a big full size one outside and last summer/fall Ava loved it.

We have a big outside trampoline with netting all around, and our daughter from Russia uses it all the time. She loves it, and it really wears her out, which is practically impossible to do. That is GREAT about Grace's numbers! She will be very smart - the brain needs lots of good food! You are really lucky she is so healthy. Our daughter is so hyperactive, it is difficult to maintain her weight. Plus, it means Grace must have been well fed in the baby home, during those critical first months. I would consider those numbers a huge blessing! :)
